Old buddy in town – bit of beach time, bit of fishing

My old mate Dal (Dalius) was in town visiting for a week. So we had a plan to do a trip somewhere outside of the city. Because it being a peak of the summer and the temperatures scorching way into 40s we thought it’s better to spend some time camping somewhere on the coast rather than going for the hills. That way we hopefully escape the heat, try and catch a wave or two in the morning and try our luck fishing the estuary in the afternoon.

That’s what we did but with not much luck to be honest. There wasn’t much swell coming through so surfing was pretty poor, and estuary fish didn’t seem to be interested in our flies. We got some occasional hits off the surface, but couldn’t set a hook or maybe cause the fish were just too small. And that’s about it. So we ended up just chilling and enjoying the beers instead.

On the way back to Sydney we decide to try one of the rivers for carp. Dal managed to land one but thanks to my terrible fish handling skills that beast managed to get away.
Then after couple of days we did a quick trip up to the Blue Mountains. The heat was still hanging around, and the thermometer in the car showed 34 degrees at one point…Way to hot for the trout I recon. We managed to spot a couple of trout just hiding in the shaded areas with overhanging trees, they looked like they’re struggling from the lack of oxygen in the water so decided to better leave them alone. Oh and also cause got chased by couple of red-bellied black snakes. Good fun.

That was enough fishing for a week and we agreed that spending rest of the days enjoying what Manly has on offer is a much better idea.
