Slow days on post-flood Blue Mountains rivers

Normally a little bit of rain is supposed to be good for the trout, especially now coming into the Autumn and pre-spawn season. But last couple of weeks brought more rain than anticipated, so all major trout rivers in the Blue Mountains got flooded pretty badly. After waiting a few days for the water to settle down, we decided to try our luck and hit one of our favorite spots. The drive in required a multiple creek crossings, so what before was a pretty straight forward cross after the floods became more challenging, as most of the soil and rocks at the crossing points got washed off. Getting bogged at last bit of track in added some adrenaline to the whole trip but luckily after re-arranging some rocks and using Maxtrax we eventually got ourselves out of trouble. We decided to hike in the last bit of the track to access the river. The day was nice and clear with plenty of insect activity, but water unfortunately was still running high and murky. Fishing was pretty slow the whole day and looked like fish just vanished for some reason. Only my mate Dan landing couple of smaller size browns on a bright colored bead nymphs. Cooking up some good ol aussie snags and freshly made coffee made up for the lack of fishing action, so overall not a bad little trip into the mountains that beats any day spent in the big smoke.
